AAA Urges Motorists to Slow Down, Stay Alert as Children Head Back To School

As more than 50 million students across the United States get ready to start the 2016-2017 school year, AAA reminds motorists to be aware of increased child pedestrian activity and traffic congestion in and around neighborhoods and school zones. In 2014 more than 309 child pedestrians died and 11,000 were injured nationwide. North Dakota saw two child pedestrian deaths and 13 injuries. Motorists should be especially vigilant for pedestrians during before-and after-school hours, which are particularly dangerous for walking children. Over the last decade, nearly one-third of child pedestrian fatalities occurred between 3 and 7 p.m. Read more...
