Check the Expiration Date on Your Child’s Passport

AAA Travel advises parents, be sure to check the expiration date on your child’s U.S. Passport.

Unlike adult passports which are valid for 10 years, passports for children expire after 5 years. The fee to obtain a new passport for a minor is $82. An extra fee will be charged for rush processing.

Both biological parents are required to be present during the application process for a U.S. Passport for their child. If one parent has passed away, a death certificate is required.

When purchasing an airline ticket for a minor traveling to a foreign destination, keep in mind that the name on the passport and the airline ticket must be identical.
